Andrew Ryan wants you to love the bass. As a performer, composer, producer, and educator, his instrument rests at the core of his music. At ease singing folk songs, constructing soundscapes, or playing baroque melodies, Andrew lives comfortably in a musical curiosity spanning folk to formal and ancient to avant-garde.

Andrew’s eclecticism began at a young age, studying in western classical and jazz traditions while moonlighting in pop & folk outfits. During his studies at Ithaca College and Conservatorium van Amsterdam, Andrew sought out personal tutelage of bass virtuoso Francois Rabbath to help him fuse his disparate interests with uncompromising technique and artistry.

A coveted side-player & collaborator, Andrew has forged a career adapting to almost any sonic environment. He appears regularly alongside Kaia Kater, Jayme Stone, & Moira Smiley; and is a member of the improvising chamber-group 9 Horses. He regularly composes and produces music for film, and is a co-founder of Adhyâropa Records.
